Daymark Foundation & Perinatal Mental Health
2025Overview
Co-designing a more connected system of care in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Daymark Foundation, a Toronto-based charity working to improve mental health across Canada, partnered with Stepped Care Solutions (SCS), Akendi, and Blueprint ADE to develop a more coordinated approach to perinatal mental health care.
With Newfoundland and Labrador selected as the pilot location, the partners worked to understand existing services, identify gaps, and co-design an integrated system that better connects pregnant and postpartum people with the supports they need.
Central to the design is a hub-and-spoke model, where a central hub helps coordinate community-based services, creating more connected pathways to care while keeping support close to home. SCS contributed mental health system design expertise, supported stakeholder engagement, and helped develop a governance structure grounded in the Newfoundland and Labrador context.
Together, the partners developed a foundation for a more coordinated, person-centred approach to perinatal mental health care, with the potential to inform similar initiatives across Canada.
SCS’s consultation was instrumental in supporting the development of a tailored governance approach for our project. Their guidance helped us define clear roles, responsibilities, and decision-making pathways specific to the project’s needs, creating a strong foundation for collaboration and accountability. Throughout the project, their deep knowledge of the mental health landscape in Canada added significant value, ensuring our work was informed, relevant, and responsive to the broader context.
